The electrospindle regeneration takes place in the following stages:

Initial verification of the spindle condition

The initial verification of the spindle’s condition involves a visual, geometric, and vibroacoustic inspection of the spindle unit. The checks include, among other things, the values of the radial runout of the tool taper, the pull-in force, and the speed or acceleration levels of mechanical vibrations. Every electrospindle also undergoes a stator performance verification using the SKF BAKER tester. Depending on the specific spindle design, the performance of specific sensors and the encoder is also checked.

Disassembly and cleaning

After the initial verification is completed, appropriately trained technicians carefully disassemble and clean each unit of the spindle assembly. The polished parts are then stored under suitable conditions to prevent corrosion.

Inspection

The inspection primarily involves the geometric control of the bearing journals and the spindle nose. All critical components, including bearing housings, elements of the tool clamping unit, rotary joints, etc., are also inspected and measured.

After the inspection is finished, the required scope of regeneration for a given case is determined. The client also receives a report detailing the original condition of the spindle.

Regeneration / Machining

Based on the previously determined needs, the required components are subjected to the machining or regeneration process. For the regeneration of rotating elements, specialized STUDER S33 grinding machines and an ALPHALASER AL-FLAK automatic laser cladding machine are used. When manufacturing bearing spacers or bearing housing springs, the geometry of the components is appropriately matched to the required bearing preload.

Rotor balancing

Every spindle undergoes a two-plane dynamic balancing process on a SCHENCK CAB 820 balancing machine, typically in tolerance class G1.

Assembly

After all required parts have been properly prepared, trained technicians assemble the respective spindle unit, exercising all due caution regarding cleanliness and the proper storage of corrosion-prone components.

Tests and run-in

To verify the completed regeneration, the tests performed during the initial verification stage are repeated. In addition, each spindle undergoes a run-in process in accordance with the recommendations of the spindle and bearing manufacturers. During the run-in, service technicians monitor the operating temperature of the bearings. For spindle units with cooling channels, an active temperature stabilization system is used during the run-in.
